Real Recruit or Just a Number? Check Your Camp Invite
Not every invite means you're a top recruit—here’s how to spot the difference.
This time of year, tons of you are getting “invites” to college camps via email or Twitter DMs. Want to know if it’s a legit, personal invite or just a mass marketing ploy? Here’s the deal: camps are big cash cows for college teams, so some invites are more about your wallet than your skills. Check the email—if there’s an “unsubscribe” link at the bottom, it’s likely a bulk email, not a special invite just for you.
On Twitter, it’s a red flag if a coach you’ve never talked to or met suddenly follows you and slides into your DMs with a camp invite. Probably not personal. Is going to the camp a bad move? Nope! Just don’t roll in thinking you’re their top recruit, expecting VIP treatment—you might just be one of many.
If you’ve actually chatted with the coach and they’re inviting you (bonus points if it’s free), that’s likely a real deal. Otherwise, it’s probably not. Think about it: would you pay to attend a party you were truly invited to? Keep your expectations in check, and you’ll be golden.
